Adding iSCSI boot support to Microsoft Windows

Microsoft Connect download page

You need to install the Microsoft iSCSI Software Initiator Boot Version. You must obtain this from http://connect.microsoft.com by signing up with the invitation code ms-8RR8-6K43. This is not the standard Microsoft iSCSI Initiator; you do need the special boot-capable version.

The Microsoft Connect download site will offer you a choice of four versions of the boot-capable iSCSI initiator. These will be named something like

  Initiator-2.04-Boot-build3273-amd64chk.exe
  Initiator-2.04-Boot-build3273-amd64fre.exe
  Initiator-2.04-Boot-build3273-x86chk.exe
  Initiator-2.04-Boot-build3273-x86fre.exe

You almost certainly want the -x86chk version, unless you are running 64-bit Windows (in which case you want the -amd64chk version).

Download and install the boot-capable iSCSI initiator. Reboot the system and check that it boots up correctly.
