[gPXE] Problems with iscsi boot

Hi @all,

I'm using boot from san with gpxe for about 2 years now.

Now I wanted to setup a little Media PC with Windows 7 and boot from san
but that's just not working.

Hardware :

Asus E35M1-I Deluxe
2 GB RAM
Onboard NIC

I created a USB Stick to boot gpxe from, configured my DHCP server the
same way I did for my workstation and created a iscsi target for that
computer.

All seems to work fine. "Preserving connection to SAN" was shown and I
thought "great, it just works" but the disk didn't show up in the
Windows installer.

I tried a few things I found in the wiki. Tried to debug it a bit more
but found nothing.

So I installed Windows 7 Ultimate X64 on a normal HDD and did a "dd
if=/dev/sde of=/storage/iscsi/iscsi.mediapc bs=1M" after the
installation was done.

Now the system tries to boot Windows7 from san, fails and just gives me
the repair console, which also is booted from the san.

The network drivers are installed and working when I boot from the HDD.

Maybe someone here has a clue what causes this behavior. Would be much
appreciated.

Best regards

Marcus
