The fact that you don't get ping responses indicates that you have a basic IP 
connectivity problem; let's get that sorted first.

Are you also seeing ARP responses?  If not, that would indicate the problem.

Can you post the raw wireshark trace on a website somewhere, and paste the URL 
here?  (If not, please e-mail me off-list with the trace.)
