Hi
I am fiddling with WAN (HTTP) booting of "Universal XP". By wimbooting xp, we can enjoy great compression and faster image transfer (my rather complete XP SP2 with all services intact, is only 209 Mb after finally being zipped).
When running tests in VMware, I notice an average gain of roughly 30% in terms of transfer speed, when choosing e1000 over pcnet32. However, in both cases I notice the connection will hang for a couple of seconds every 5-6 second. I am using HFS as the fileserver to connect to. With e1000 I am peaking at about 3,2 Mb/s, but averaging at 2 Mb/s (because of the intervalling hangs). Transferring the same image over a different connection (not using gPXE), I notice there is no hang at all.
Is this a known issue? Is there a workaround or fix for it?
At the prompt I just type "dhcp net0", and connection is automatically set up.
Anyways, a fantastic project this gPXE!!
